At Chukkers for Children, we help fund specialized equine-assisted therapy program services tailored for children facing challenges.
Our compassionate fund supports the work of licensed therapists and certified instructors to facilitate their safe and nurturing environment, enabling children to connect with horses and develop essential emotional, physical and social skills.
EMPOWERING CHILDREN - with Special Needs,
Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as At-Risk Youth
Equine-assisted Therapy can be highly effective in reducing anxiety by providing immediate feedback,
and possibly lowering cortisol while building self-awareness, emotional regulation, trust and empathy.
WHO WE ARE :
Chukkers for Children is a special program
of the Leonard C. Maudens Foundation,
dedicated to help transform the lives of children with Special Needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and At Risk Youth. The generous funding of the Leonard C. Maudens Foundation, supports unique equine-assisted programs and facilities in California.
Equine experiences go beyond riding - teach patience, responsibility, communication, and self-confidence. The bond between child and horse creates a therapeutic environment that nurtures emotional growth and resilience. By combining mentorship, skill-building, and the healing powerof animals, which helps children discover joy, connection, and their own limitless potential.
We believe every child deserves a chance to shine. Equine therapy offers a unique avenue for healing, fostering self-esteem, and developing social skills.

Equine-assisted therapy and services promote healing and personal growth with documented results through unique interactions with horses.
EMPOWERING THROUGH CONNECTION
We believe in the healing bond between children and horses. The programs that we support are designed to foster emotional growth, confidence, and resilience. Through guided relationship-based horsemanship and therapeutic services, children learn to communicate, build trust, and develop essential life skills while engaging with gentle and nurturing retired ponies. Recently there has been a shortage of the proper type of horses suited for this work; lets aim to fill the need!

Therapeutic riding programs are designed to promote physical, emotional, and social development in children. Through guided sessions, children engage with horses to build confidence and improve coordination as well as support other benefits.
Equine-assisted therapy and other services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child, addressing various challenges such as anxiety and behavioral expressions. The calming presence of horses can significantly reduce stress levels, promote emotional regulation, and enhance overall well-being, These programs are a vital resource for families seeking help.

Transition from the high-intensity world of polo to the intuitive, steady pace of equine-assisted therapy is a beautiful "second act" for these athletes. Polo ponies are often ideal candidates because they are already accustomed to physical contact, quick movements, and high-pressure environments, which translates well to the sensory-rich atmosphere of an equine therapy center.
